Mid 20th century American Philadelphia tall back armchair. This is a beautifully executed copy of a rare 18th century American chair. It has a carved top rail, with 9 long spindles uniting the deeply curved bentwood middle section with carved handrests, and a commodious, comfortable seat. The turned base balances the top well, so the chair has strong design lines but also a delicate linear quality. The black painted surface has an intentional crazing, suggesting age but also providing an additional decor feature. In excellent condition, it is an antique of the future. Circa 1960
