19th century Country Windsor Armchair W443

A superb example of English country chair making in the 19th century. This scroll back Windsor armchair is made of fruitwoods, beech and an elm seat. The uprights are hand shaped, as is the comfortable curved back rail with 3 fine turned spindles which are set within the shaped arcaded back rails. A particularly pleasing design, with a fabulous grained elm seat, this chair is in excellent condition, with only a small repair to the corner of the seat. Probably made in the Thames Valley/Buckinghamshire area, it has a makers initials, T.A, stamped into the rear of the seat edge. Circa 1870
