6 Antique Gilt and Upholstered Dining Chairs V90

DescriptionA superb set of 6 giltwood dining chairs from the late 18th century. Reputed to have come from Buckingham Palace, via a Sotheby's sale in the second half of the 20th century, the chairs are in wonderful condition. The frames are carved in the Classical style with vine leaves, grapes, flowers, and friezes, all finished with gesso, gilding and paint. Even the back legs are carved and gilded, a sign of the finest quality. The sprung seats and backs are upholstered, and provide very comfortable seating. Despite their age, they are sturdy and firm, and have obviously had a very good life. Circa 1790
