19th Century Treen Bottle Holder. S563

This s a fine example of the 19th century Treen bottle container. Turned from boxwood, it protected the glass bottle inside, extra cushioning provided by a bed of tissue paper. A wonderful hard, dense wood, the best boxwood could be finely turned, and ages with a superb surface and patina. This small dome topped holder, with it's bottle, attests to the art of the Victorian turner and is in lovely condition. Circa 1850.
