19th Century Green Lacquered Desk
A small lacquered fall front desk on legs, a most attractive example of the Victorians love affaire with the 18th century Chinoiserie style. The green surface has raised lacquered scenes on the exterior, and a paler green interior with more delicate painted decoration. The barley twist legs and shaped under stretchers are also finished with gold. It is finely made, all the drawers of oak, dovetailed and painted red inside. All the handles are original except for one backplate (top left on the drawers). Circa 1880
