19th Century 3-dimensional Eagle Weathervane

An interesting antique weathervane of an eagle with outstretched wings. The 3-dimensional copper body is made in sections and soldered, and is pressed to give a realistic feathered appearance. It was probably originally gilded, which has worn leaving a natural "antiqued" surface with a nice pale green verdigris to the top. The ball upon which the eagle perched has deteriorated, only remnants remaining. For display it is mounted on an old pottery stand. American, circa 1860.
Width (wing span) 57cm (22 1/2 inches)
Height (including stand) 48cm (19 inches)
