Antique Perpetual Candle Storm Lamp
Late Victorian storm lamp. The round stepped dome base and barrel, made of brass, contains the coiled spring mechanism that pushes the candle upwards as it burns. This "perpetual" mechanism, invented in the 19th century, made the use of candle-light much safer. This lamp, with its etched glass shade, would have given a steady safe light. The beautiful shade does have a crack (near the base).
